Day 6 highest mountain (technical) of the world

Today we woke up in our cabin. We celebrated a bit Rene’s 60 birthday last night. But today is the day! We packed our stuff in the car and Rene performed another ‘surgery’ on my leg.. the wound is looking good. But still hurst. 
We decided to have breakfast at the military camp within Volcano park. That was a nice breakfast. On the way back through the park we stopped at some vents and look-out point on a crater. Neve gets boring. 
 

Once out of the parc we had to back up in the mountains. We booked a cabin again. But this time an empty cabin.. no beds no nothing.. luckily we had our own mattresses with us 🤪

We had lunch outside in the lovely sun. Blue sky and a bit windy. We packed one bag and started our adventures drive up the highest mountain of the world. If you do not believe me, Google it! Mauna Kea. You can only reach it with 4WD. You have to put the gear in 4L from the first km.. up and up we went.. from 2200 of the cabin to 4200.. now you wonder again.. but Mount Everest is higher.. not from sea level as this is a volcano.. so more then 10k high in total 🧐

It was a blue sky but very chilly. We hiked a little hike to the summit and admired the observatoria’s. More then 10 are up there for checking if big brother is watching us. 

After the hike it was just sitting and watching the view and waiting for the sun set.. in the mean while many more folks came up the hill for the same experience. It was beautiful! Above the clouds, seeing so many craters and  fresh lava from earlier eruptions. Just so incredible! But it got soooo cold.. freezing temperature.. we still enjoyed and drove slowly down hill again in special mode. Namely 4L in manual and max 3rd gear. Breaking on the engine only! Many did not understand that. At check point for the breaks half way, I got the compliments of excellent driving skills when they check the temperature of the brakes. Phew I passed.

Further down we went back to our cabin. Early bedtime tonight. Tomorrow early checkout at 09:00 and surprise: we also need to clean the cabin!
